Foxy Lady Passed Away Today
My fox died today. I am beside myself with grief for my beautiful Foxy Lady. Bill found her on the small dirt road behind our house when he was walking the dogs. My heart stopped when he told me she was gone. We know it was her because of her markings, and we saw her about a week ago drinking water from the trough we keep in the meadow full of water for her and the deer. She looked tired and was walking with a limp. I knew something was wrong with her then. When Bill got home from his walk, he told me. I cried very hard, and I will miss her calls and the playful times we got to watch her in the meadow.
We called the animal control in our county to pick her body up off the ground and have her properly disposed of. They picked her up a little while later, I heard the truck up behind the house. It is important to not touch a wild animal when you find one dead. They could have any number of diseases including rabies. I Saw Foxy Lady drinking only 2 days before her demise, so I am sure she did not have rabies. I estimate she was about six years old yet I of course can not be sure of that. But she has been with us for a least that long. We will see what moves in to take her place. I hope it will be one of her offspring.
I will see her again someday, in that big green meadow of heaven. Good Bye Foxy Lady, I loved you!
