Bill and I have been married for 34 years and we wanted to celebrate by going out to dinner. My favorite restaurant in Chico (our neighboring town) is called The Red Tavern, and it is owned by this gentleman and his wife, Rich and Chris Garcia. The food is contemporary and modern with a rustic flair. It is located at 1250 Esplanade (530) 895 3257, www.redtavern.com.
We started with sliders that were filled with caramelized onions and heirloom tomatoes. They were accompanied with a “Dusty Road” which was very much like a whisky sour, only with a little ginger beer. It was mesmerizing!
Bill had an avocado for his salad. It was lying on a puddle of tomato bisque. Bill loved it and devoured it in a few minutes. I didn’t even get a bite! Sure looked good!
I had the classic Caesar and It was laden with fresh Nordic anchovies that were very fishy and extremely delicious. I ate them with gusto! This salad was paired with a nice glass of prosecco from Italy and was a light fruity fresh pairing.
Bill had the Pork Roast with summer vegetables. The plating was very rustic, but Bill loved this pork grown locally at a ranch outside of town, called Yallno Seco Ranch, which produces organic beef, pork, and chicken. He enjoyed this dish but could not eat it all as it was a very large portion which he ate for his lunch the next day.
My main dish was the Duck which was more than excellent. The Leg meat was soft and tender and the breast meat was cooked to duck perfection! The Duck Confit was impeccable.
Dessert was a Blackberry Peach Custard Cake. Thank you to our friend Billy who declined to be in my blog, but took Bill and I out to a fabulous dinner. Try this restaurant when you are in the area.
