Deer In Our Meadow

Last week we were up early on the Ranch and caught these pictures of the herd of deer that live in our meadow. The Buck has his head down but you can see the new fuzzy points growing in. Last year He had four points on each side so this year he will have more.

They are so majestic as they quietly graze and wander safely through the meadow knowing they are safe there. The dogs are in a fenced in yard around the house where they can’t get to the meadow. The deer act like they know this as they look at us and just keep sauntering along.

This is not the whole herd, so I hope they are just in the bushes and are out of sight. Herds thin out naturally when a buck becomes independent and leaves the herd to create his own family. Or unfortunate occurrences on the highway when a deer is hit. We haven’t seen too many on the side of the road as rutting season has only started. I hate seeing road killed deer; it always makes me a little sad for their loss of life.

This scene went on for an hour and we had our coffee while watching these beauties.

This is the Doe with two fawns.  The babies don’t have their spots any more since they were born here last year. Look how proud the doe looks. What a fun morning.

to high school for one more year, also if it was in a
